The Writers Studio was founded in 1987 on the belief that when the desire to write is strong enough, anyone can learn the technique necessary for full creative expression.

2014-2015 READING SERIES The first NYC reading of the season is Friday November 21 at the Strand in NYC and it features Andre Dubus III, author of the novels House of Sand and Fog and most recently Dirty LoveDavid Means, one of the finest short story writers working today; Kim Addonizio, whose latest collection of poetry, The Palace of Illusions, came out in September 2014; and alt-country singer-songwriter Jim White, who will read from his memoir piece on David Byrne. STUDENTS' RECENT BOOK CONTRACTS, PUBLICATIONS AND AWARDS Austin Duffy, an oncologist who studied in NYC and Online, has just learned that Granta will publish his debut novel, This Living and Immortal Thing in spring of 2016. Maggie Wells landed a book contract with Epic Press to publish a series of six young adult novels in Spring 2015. Maggie is a NYC Level II student. Craig van Rooyen's poem "Waiting in Vain" won the 2014 Rattle Poetry Prize. He has had more than a dozen poetry publications in the past year, and is a student in the Advanced Poetry Class. EDWARD HIRSCH, FORMER POET LAUREATE ROBERT PINSKY & PULITZER PRIZE WINNER YUSEF KOMUNYAKAA ARE GUEST TEACHERS in this fall's Craft Class. ONLINE WORKSHOPS IN FICTION & POETRY BEGIN JANUARY 7 Join our Online Program, started in 2001, and benefit from a program that has been helping writers reach their potential for 27 years. All you need is a computer with internet connection.

JOIN OUR ONLINE INTERMEDIATE POETRY CLASS  This workshop is open to poets around the world who have poetry publications, an MFA or four post-graduate writing courses. Contact peter to apply for a spot in the class. Class starts January 7.

SAN FRANCISCO WORKSHOPS The Writers Studio San Francisco had over 30 publications in 2013 by students and teachers, including a Pushcart Prize and two Pushcart nominations. This year has brought two more Pushcart Prizes and over a dozen publications. Join a workshop and find out why.
