This eight-week online course trains tutors, parents and teachers of high school and middle school students to teach creative writing to students with dyslexia.

Join us for this hands-on workshop that includes a ready-to-use manual with 10 reading/creative writing exercises for your student.

The first five weeks spark your creativity as you learn by doing creative writing exercises from the manual. Online chats use your experience with the exercises as a teaching tool. You will be taught how to:

  • Engage reluctant students in reading aloud and joining in discussion of short literary texts
  • Support students to get their creativity onto the page
  • Weave emotional and social support into feedback sessions of student work

This method was developed by Philip Schultz, prize-winning poet and author of the memoir My Dyslexia, and has helped dyslexic students to find joy and success in reading and writing. The workshop teacher, Rebecca Gee, was trained by Schultz. She has taught this method in charter schools, community centers, online and in tutorials.

Participants who complete the workshop receive a certificate. Cost: $405
