Students come into this Master Class, taught by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Philip Schultz, with plenty of experience and sophistication. Here they take on the next challenge: honing the skills and developing the healthy habits that will sustain them throughout their writing lives. They develop increased self-awareness about their own internal process, as well as increased control over the “voice” that’s unique to them and over their narrative choices. Students at this level continue to do exercises from the Craft Class, but they also routinely complete poems and stories to submit for publication, and work toward creating a book-length manuscript. Teachers in the school also participate in this workshop.
Open only to those students who have completed Level 4 and by permission of the teacher. Class meets virtually.

The workshop has definitely given a structure to my writing. It has also made my writing life more challenging when I’m stuck for ideas, in that it provides a wonderful springboard or launch pad. Most of my short stories have begun as Writers Studio exercises.
